Help and advice on the Focus software range

Focus software has been used by thousands of people since the launch of Focus X2 in 2002. The information provided here is based on the experience of these users. If you can't find the answer you need then please contact us by emailing support@elitesportsanalysis.com.

There are roughly three areas where Focus users can need help: license activation, understanding the concepts behind Focus and handling video files.

License Activation

Focus products are available for download from this web site. The download software is the full product but it's state is controlled by a license activation code. For example when you download and install Focus X2 it will operate in a demo mode where a project can be viewed but new events cannot be added or new video captured. You can register with Elite Sports Analysis and receive a free 15-day trial license activation code that makes Focus X2 fully working for 15 days. If you then purchase Focus X2, a full license activation code is emailed to you. Focus does not need to be re-installed and any data created during the trial period is retained. Click here to get more details of the license process.

Focus Concepts

If you have never used any analysis software before then the concepts behind Focus will be new to you. The menu on the right has a link to a page that allows you to download a wide range of Focus documents. However we recommend looking at the Concepts Guide as a minimum. You will find this covers the essential background to how a Focus project is put together. A number of these documents are also installed on your PC with Focus. To find documents on your PC click 'Start' - 'Programs' - 'Focus X2' - 'Documents'.

Video Files

A Focus project combines video with your logged events. Depending on the sport or activity you are analysing, you will find that the video files can take up considerable disk space - a soccer game might require 18 GigaBytes for example. Managing your video will help ensure you are always able to complete your analysis. You might need to consider buying extra hard disks - either internal or external (USB, Firewire) - or you can use Focus to compress the video to save disk space. We recommend giving some thought to the amount of video you will require and planning ahead. For example compressing a soccer match video will take around 1 1/2 hours depending on the power of your PC. Always use the project manager which is built into Focus (from within Focus X2 click 'File' - 'Manage Projects') to move or copy projects. This ensures that the video files are copied correctly and that Focus can still find the video when you open the new or relocated project.
